Japanese shoppers will surely welcome this development. The otherwise mundane, useless, resource and time consuming billboards have finally been put to better use. Yahoo! Japan has come up with some cool Billboards that are equipped with cameras and facial analysis tools that identify each individual’s vita stats such as age, sex, etc. Using this information, the billboard will display just those products that would be most likely required by the person who has been scanned. It is a smart technique to advertise, especially in times like those frustrating evening when I go shopping for a new neck tie and am greeted with nothing but lingerie ads. However, at the back of my mind I still wish for devices like these to have the capability of detecting things like ripped socks and worn out jeans, and then making it public with load advertisements. I’d sit by them all day and watch as faces go from pink, to red to purple with shame.
One may wonder why Yahoo Japan needs to take the pains to get such a campaign underway. Well, the fact remains that the site is the most preferred search engine in Japan (yes, Google’s outdone here). So to underline their complete domination, we see such brilliance put to work.
